Looking at, Looking in

Installation for the MFA Show exhibition, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2018.

“In June 2017, I traveled to Cuba and was fascinated by its history, architecture, music, dance, vibrant colors, and most of all, the kindness of its people.

Looking at, Looking in explores this introspective journey and questions my interpretation of this unique experience.

In this installation of wall text, printed scrim and embellished textile, memories are turned into permanent living matter. The various levels of interpretation and layers of interaction reveal the complexity of this intercultural exchange.”
